Mesa, AZ Area Guide

Steamboats and dinosaurs. Not two things you think about together really, but they fit in Mesa because when you come visit, there are two things you have to check out. The Dolly Steamboat ride through the mini Grand Canyon and the Mesa Arts Center with its dinosaur display.

And those are just two of the things Mesa has waiting for you!

Residents and tourists alike are finding that the mix of great economics and things to do make it the ideal place to visit or live. Whether you’re an up and coming single, a family that wants a great place to raise kids or couples looking to retire to the sunny weather, Mesa’s at the top of their lists.

A growing economy with better than average tax base makes Mesa not just the third largest city in Arizona, but one of the ‘must see’ destinations whether you’re thinking of moving, or just looking for a little relaxation of the hustle and hurry life.

Everyone who comes to Mesa checks on many things and usually one of the first things they want to see is The Mesa Arts Center. It’s unique, architecturally beautiful look is located in the heart of downtown Mesa. Enjoy the eclectic mix of culture and business, the arts and government. It’s the anchor for downtown with shops, restaurants and museums just to name a few of the attractions that will draw you in and entertain for hours.

Ready to head outside? Visitors will love the weather here. It’s perfect for golf at one of our beautifully landscaped golf courses, whether you prefer the nine or the 18 hole version and with the highest number of sunny days in the country, chances are you can play all day without worrying about getting wet.

If wet’s what you want, though, check out Golfland Sun Splash. The kids will love it and probably the adults too, because it has its very own castle complete with turrets! Inside are fun and games, miniature golf and arcades just waiting to be taken advantage of here. The outdoors has never been so much fun, with giant water slides, lazer tag and great food like burgers and pizza.

Love pizza but looking for fruit and veggies? The Farmer’s Market is calling your name! Fresh fruit and produce brought in daily and friendly folks to help you pick your favorites wait for you there.

After that great lunch, work off some calories with a trip to one of the local museums. A unique feature of Mesa is the Arizona Museum for Youth, but don’t let the name fool you. This museum has things for kids and for grown up kids too with event calendars jammed full of events and activities year round. If you love dinosaurs, and natural history, make a stop at the Arizona Museum of Natural History too. The dinosaurs roar and you can pan for gold after you check out the replica Native American village and the kids will love the 3-D puzzle challenge of putting together their own mastodon!

If you’d rather let out your inner photographer, check out the Dolly Steamboat. Sign up for a tour of Canyon Lake in the heart of the Superstition Mountains and minutes from Mesa then prepare to be dazzled. The lake is contained by high walls of rock that have been a part of the world for longer than people have and it is a stunning sight to behold. You’ll find yourself without words, so make sure your memory card is new, because you’ll take pictures of scenery that will knock your socks off. The beauty of the unique rock formations are amazing to see and the Apache Trail will have you talking for years.

With an eye towards the future, whether you’re visiting or checking us out, bring your spirit of adventure and your suitcases to Mesa. An excellent quality of life waits for you here and friendly people make it a great destination for you.
